Lochhead
E~eculive Director
Alichae B. Lung
Di.-islun Dueaur
The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Anicle 33, Section 116,
Paragraph 4, of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on December 16, 1998, an application to revise coal mining
operations at the Bowie No. 2 Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. The revision was
submitted by Bowie Resources Limited. All review and comment periods as provided in the Act and the
Regulations initiate from this date of filing.
Approval of this technical revision would allow a change in the mine plan for the Bowie No. 2 Mine. The change
would permit longwall mining and an increase in production from 2 million tones per year to 5 million tones per
year. The proposed mining change would still be in the current permit boundary and still involve only private
surface and fee coal.
The underground coal mining operation is on land located approximately 5 miles northeast of Paonia, Colorado.
The permit area is further described as follows:
Portions of Sections 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, I I, l4, 15, and 16, Township 13 South, Range 91 West of the 6th P.bi.
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Bowie.
A copy of the technical revision application is available for public inspection at the Delta County Courthouse, 5th
& Palmer, Delta, CO 81416, and at the Division office. In order for us to comply with regulatory time frames, we request that
comments be submitted within fifteen (IS) days of this letter. If no comments are received by then, we will
proceed on the assumption that you have no concerns with, or objections to, the applicant's proposal.
Sincerely,
(
~ ~~ =~
seph J.
