PAGE TWO
DECEMBER 27, 1993
BARBARA PAVLIK
°...submit a plan (as a revision to the permit) with a schedule for testing compaction frequently
enough to verify compaction of each 2' lift and begin following that plan immediately after approval.°
WFU would like to discuss this matter with the engineering and operating personnel at the mine and
possibly get some expert opinion from the outside. It has become difficult to work on such a plan
because of the holidays. WFU requests that the date of submittal of this plan be extended to
January 18, 1994.
Certified drawings for the impoundment at the railroad loadout, conveyor Vansfer no. 1 and conveyor
transfer no. 2 are located in the permit document as Map 103A, Map 109 and Map 111 respectively.
These ponds are inspected on a quarterly basis. NOV's related to these impoundments should be
vacated.
The fresh water lagoon was approved by DMG in the past without any requirement for quarterly
inspection or professional certification. As DMG is aware, the lagoon water is just an overflow from
the White River and the "embankment" is the access built to get to the alluvial wells. Any failure of
the embankment will send the lagoon water back to the White River, and this does not pose a
danger to life or property. In order to comply with the NOV, WFU is submitting certified
impoundment map under a separate cover. WFU will begin quarterly inspection as of the first
quarter of 1994,
I hope this response to the five NOV's is satisfactory to DMG. As always, WFU will continue to
maintain first class environmental and compliance standards.
Sincerely,
~~ ~~~
.~
Murari P.
