. ~, <br />MCC wants to move [he top-soil stockpile in order to increase the holding capacity of the coal swrage pad. <br />Since the mine is expecting to more than double its production in the coming year, addiu>nal coal storage <br />capacity is required. <br />Power Transmission Line Relocation <br />MCC proposes to extend its on-site power transmission lines farther south up the hill jmt south ul the main <br />mine office. This site is re(ered to as Site 3 and is also represented on Figure 3. The Icgal description fur <br />Site 3 is NE'/,, NE'/<, Sec 16, Tl3S, R90W. <br />A portion of the top-soil stockpile, upon relocation, will occupy the area that presently has power lines <br />crossing through it. MCC will need to divert the power lines to ensure sufficient top-soil sroragc space. <br />Refuse Pile Expansion <br />MCC proposes to expand the capacity of iu current mining refuse piles This expansion would extend westward <br />into the area labeled Site d on Figure 3. The legal description for Site 4 is the SE '/., SE '/,, Sec 9, T13S, <br />R90W. <br />By expanding the area allocated for the refuse pile, MCC will accomodate the increase in generated refuse due <br />to its increase in production. <br />Existing Conditions <br />Site 1: Water Tank Installation <br />Site Descri~7tion -- Site I is an upland meadow (disturbed clearing) on a 5':4 slope. This site Taus nunh <br />east at an elevation of 7,320 to 7,375 feet. The site has an area of 0.95 acre. <br />Soils -- The soils On this site arc primarily Absarokec-Work loam (SCS, 1981). This ix a dark, grayish- <br />brown loam interspersed with clay-looms and patches of surface cobble. It is also a deep and well-drained soil <br />that generally occurs on uplands and valley side slopes. <br />Vegetation -- Dominant vegetation on site was smooth brome (Bronws inernris) and lupine (Lu )inus sue). <br />Vegetative composition on the perimeter of the meadow was Gambcl oak (. uercus ~nnthelii), big sagebrush <br />(Artenusia triArnrnm), serviceberry (Anrelnnchier nlni ofin), and choke-cherry (Pnrnus virginiann). <br />Site 2: Top-soil Stockpile Relocation <br />Site Desription -- Site 2 is a mature stand u(scrub oak on aIll°/r «7 25%. slope. Thts site ha. a northerly <br />aspect at an elevation of 6,3-10 t0 6,d80 feet. The site has an area of 6.19 acres. <br />Soils -- The soils on this sites arc primarily Bcenom-Absarokw association (SCS, 1951). This i. a dark, <br />grayish-brown loam having moderately slow permeability and ION' avmlable water capaan'. <br />VegetaLlO^ -- DOminanf Ve`gel3ll0^ O^ SIfC was Gambcl oak and mountain mahogany (Cercucnrmrs <br />nronranus).
