Gunnison No. 1 Mine, Arco Coal Co.
The Grand Junction Branch of Solid Minerals has reviewed the one volume Miae
Plan Revision Application submitted December 17, 1984. West Elk Coal Company
proposes to extend a portion of the current 5-year permit area both to
accommodate a revision to the underground mining sequence and permit the
relocation of the subsidence teat panel.
With regard to the revision of the mining sequence, the larger barrier pillars
are acceptable in view of long-term stability of the main entries and
shouldn't result in reduced overall coal recovery if pulled on final retreat.
The change of panel entry pillar dimensions from 82 ft by 82 ft to 52 ft by
82 ft is acceptable and will increase overall recovery. Questions with regard
to the mining plan revisions are ae follows:
1. What is the revised panel entry barrier pillar width?
2. What ie meant by Figure 27 Panel Entry System is not clear.
Is the stippled area marked ae "To Be Mined on Retreat" the only
area in the panel entries where pillar recovery will take place,
or will both development of the entries and recovery of the pillars
take place in these 2 entries simultaneously?
