A third copy has been sent to the Division's Denver Office also addressed to yvu. TR-34
requests changes to the hydrology monitoring program as described below.
Due to the closing of the Yoast Mine, SCC has requested a reduction in monitoring frequencies of
streams, springs and wells. These reduced monitoring frequencies will be continued until a year or two
before final bond release, at which time monitoring frequencies will be increased. The details of the
changes are provided below.
For ground water monitoring wells, the frequency of water level tt~asurements has been changed from
tri-annual to semi-annual (May/June and September/October). Water quality sampling frequency of all
wells will remain unchanged.
Water quality sampling will be discontinued at Well YSALB. This well is in the Sage Creek alluvium
between the discharges of Ponds 012 and 013. This well is not used for the PHC analysis. Table 15-8,
Ground Water Monitoring Frequencies (pages 22 and 23, Tab 15), has been revised to reflect these
changes.
For stream sites, monitoring at YSS2 (Sage Creek below Pond 012) have been changed from monthly
to tri-annual (spring rwtoff,pnst-runoff and baseflow). For spoil springs, monitoring has been changed
from semi-annual to annual (May- July). Three newspod springs (k 2, 3 and 4) have been included
into the monitoring program Table 15-9, Surface Water Monitoring Frequencies (page 24, Tab 15),
has been revised to reflect these changes.
Attached are the requirrd application form, public notice, insenion instmttions, and the
revised/updated material. Should you or any other member of the Division have questions regarding
the information, please contact Dennis Jones at (970) 276-5209.
Seneca Coal Company • P.O.
