EXIIIBIT B-,SITE DESCRIPTION
The site is a currently active surFace mine located along the west shoulder of County
Road 12 approximately 12 miles north of Cotopaxi, Colorado in Western Fremont
County. The material mined is a weathered granite bedrock outcropping along the
eastern flank of a mountain hillside. County Raad 12 and Quagmire Creek border the site
along the western side ofthe affected land. The site portrays a thin mountain soil horizon
truncated in several locations due to natural erosion of the course soils on moderate to
steep slopes (] 0%-30%). The site is vegetated with native glasses, shrubs, tress, and
forbes inchtding numerous cacti species such as yucca. Ground cover prior to
disturbance is in the range of 40%. This site has been actively mined for the past ten
years. The amendment as proposed will allow Fremont Coemty to continue to mine this
important source of road materials for county mad maintenance in this rural area. No
houses are visible from the affected land area. No electric utility lines or telephone lines
are in the area as this area is outside the limits of the local utilities grid in this rural
location. At maximum disturbance, this site will not be visible from neighbotting lands to
to the north, south, east or west other than that short stretch of County Road 12 bordering
the affected lands due to the sun-ounding topography.
2
