r
Wildlife use is also extensive on Pond A. Observation reveal that
more than 15 species of water fowl are using Pond A. Six to twelve
broods of ducks are raised on the pond each year. In addition elk,
deer, small mammals, numerous other migratory birds, reptiles,
amphibians, fish and many invertebrates use the pond. The size and
shape of the pond with the large amount of aquatic vegetation
provides valuable aquatic habitat.
Three permanent five horsepower aerators will be installed in Pond
A to aid in the return of the pond to an aerobic state from the
anaerobic condition that occurs during the winter months when an
ice cover is present on the pond. Location of the aerators is
shown on Figure 35a. Power for the aerators will be supplied from
the pumphouse built for the Twentymile Coal Company preparation
plant.
For Pond A, a stability investigation analysis have been performed.
The analysis is described in the plans and includes strength
parameters, pore pressures, long term seepage conditions,
description of engineering design assumptions and calculations.
Also presented is a discussion of each alternative considered in
selecting the specific design parameters and construction methods.
Identical stability investigations are currently in progress for
ponds
MR94-81 780-213 (b) Revised 11/09/94
