One problem is the
mine has only one air intake. Somerset has developed a plan
to excavate a rock tunnel from the C-Seam to the surface.
This additional air intake will increase the amount of fresh
air that can be delivered to the mine workings.
Enclosed is an application for a technical revision to
provide for the construction of the air intake. New drawing
5-096 and revised pages viii-6, 2.05-4i & 2.05-13 comprise
this technical revision application.
The rock tunnel will be excavated from the C-Seam to the
surface. Therefore, other than an additional mine opening
at the surface, no additional surface disturbance will
occur. The rock from the development work will be disposed
of underground.
The new mine opening is to be located above and west of the
existing Sanborn Creek Mine portals. It will be secured
against unauthorized or accidental entry by covering the
opening with heavy wire mesh.
