Lnng <br />Divi,ion Dbecbr <br />RE: Pit No. 1 (DS&G), Permit No. M-1 977-020, Technical Revision No. 1 Adequacy Review <br />Dear Mr. Johnson: <br />DMG reviewed your application for Technical Revision No. 1 (TR-011 and has the following <br />comments which must be addressed before the application can be approved. Please respond to <br />the following comments by June 12, 2001 so the decision due date set for June 14 can be met. <br />If you cannot respond by June 12`h, please submit a written request for extension of the decision <br />due date. If your response, or an extension request are not received by June 1 2, 2001 ,the <br />application may be denied. <br />ADEQUACY COMMENTS <br />1 . Please submit details and specifications for the proposed asphalt batch pant. See United's <br />permit for the Wilson Pit in Gunnison County, Permit No. M-1989-078 for a good example of <br />what should be submitted. <br />2. Benched mining operations can be conducted at this site. Please specify expected number of <br />benches and the maximum height and length of each bench that will require reclamation at the <br />worst case scenario. This can either be specified in phases, or for the entire site. Please <br />provide all necessary details and specifications so a reclamation cost can be calculated. In the <br />absence of this information, DMG will bond for cut and fill of a full height highwall around the <br />entire maximum perimeter of each section of the pit. <br />3. Please specify the location, size and volume of the proposed additional overburden and topsoil <br />stockpiles and indicate where the material in each pile will be placed during final reclamation. <br />4. Seeding of the East Parcel permanent berm can be delayed until the additional material has <br />been added to it. However, this material must be added to the berm, and the berm <br />revegetation tasks completed prior to spring 2002. Weed infestation of this berm should be <br />closely monitored and controlled until vegetation has been established. <br />5. The revision to a 25 foot buffer zone is acceptable where the top bench highwall is no more <br />than 10 feet tall and lower bench highwalls do not encroach any closer than 30 feet to the <br />highwall of the bench above it. This allows for cut and fill reduction of these benches without <br />proceeding outside the affected area. If a full depth perimeter highwall is to be the result at <br />completion of mining, then the buffer must be no less than half the highwall height multiplied <br />
