• III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
STATE OF ~OLOlv~uv
Roy Romer, Governor

DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
DAVID C. SHELTON, Dlreetor
September 11, 1987
Mr. Mark Heifner
37 E. Colorado Avenue
Denver, Colorado 80210
Re: Pikeview Technical Revision No. 6 - File No. M-77-211
Dear Mr. Heifner:
The Division has completed its review of the Pikeview Technical Revision No. 6
submittal.
The review indicates that the proposed slide stabilization plan, with minor
modifications, should greatly enhance the stability of the slope. The
Division suggests that the following measures be incorporated into the
proposed stabilization plan:
- Rather than excavating the seep area near the toe of the slide, backhoe -
cut trenches should be established in this area draining to the toe.
These trenches, which should be excavated into the slide mass, should
either be packed with gravel, or have slotted PVC pipe installed
surrounded by a gravel pack. The trenches should then be refilled. the
excavation of discreet drainage trenches should provide adequate drainage
for the slide mass without relieving the toe support of the slide.
- The outflow from the processing plant area should be routed through the
design drainage to the settling pond, rather then being allowed to flow
across the shop bench. Limiting the amount of water available for
infiltration into the shop slope area will increase the inherent slope
stability.
Regarding the backfiliing of the old access road, it would appear that the
proposed topography of the backfilled area is acceptable. The Division's only
concern is that an adequate vegetative cover will not be established on this
material. The operator should make every attempt to secure an adequate supply
of a suitable topsoil replacement medium so that an adequate vegetative cover
can be established subsequent to completing the backfilling work.
The above concerns should be evaluated and incorporated into the Technical
Revision submittal.
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203.2273 Tel.
