WILDLIFE RESOURCES ASSESSMENT <br />FORT LUPTON PROPERTIES <br />WELD COUNTY, COLORADO <br />JULY 19, 2004 <br />Introduction <br />LaFarge North America is applying for a surface mining permit from the Colorado <br />Division of Minerals and Geology to excavate sand and gravel on portions of the <br />properties within the study area. Lafarge contracted ERO Resources Corporation (ERO) <br />to conduct a Wildlife Resources Assessment at the proposed Fort Lupton properties site <br />in Weld County, Colorado. <br />According to the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology (DMG) Rules and <br />Regulations (October 1995), Rule 6.4.8(1) of Wildlife Information requires that the <br />Applicant include a description of the significant wildlife resources on the affected land. <br />Rule 6.4.8(1)d requires the Applicant to include a description of the general effect during <br />and after the proposed operation on the existing wildlife of the area, including but not <br />limited to temporary and permanent loss of food and habitat, interference with migratory <br />routes, and the general effect on the wildlife from increased human activity, including <br />noise. <br />Purpose <br />The purpose of this assessment is to determine the presence or absence of wildlife <br />populations, including threatened and endangered species, and habitat on or near the Fort <br />Lupton properties (project site). A total of eleven parcels are included in the project site <br />(Figure 1). <br />Project Description <br />The project site is located between County Road 6 and Highway 52, just west of the <br />towns of Brighton and Fort Lupton, Colorado (Figure 1).
