N.E. ~S FS C~ ~~
Cartersville, GA 30121
Dear Bill,
Not long ago, this office was approached by Kenneth Klco, a Consulting Geologist assessing the
mining operations being conducted on Taylor Mountain, Chaffee County, Colorado by your
Georgia based company, Colorado Marble, Ina It is my understanding that Mr. Klco has met
with my Minerals Administrator, Cltris Welker, and has gone over the Reclamation Permit
Application Form required of an operator by the State of Colorado Division of Minerals and
Geology (DMG).
During the meeting with my Minerals Administrator, Mr. Klco presented a notarized letter
signed by you, which is required by the state DMG to ensure the operator agrees to assume
responsibility for any road damage as a result of the mining and reclamation activities on state,
county, and Forest System roads. I understand that a similar "road letter" has also been sent to
the Chaffee County Commissioners Office for signature.
After speaking with the Chaffee County Commissioners Office, and discussing the situation on
Taylor Mountain with members of my staff, I have decided to sign and return the "road letter" to
your Consulting Geologist, Mr. Klco. However, I still have the following expectations from you
and your company:
1. Colorado Marble needs to open an avenue of constructive dialogue between the
company and my Minerals Administrator, outlining exactly what
goals/expectations the company has for the mined area.
• Although Mr. Klco has done a good job explaining Colorado Marble's
reasoning behind the need to continue the mining activities on such a
productive marble site, Colorado Marble has not addressed the issue of the
absence of an approved Plan of Operations (POO) for the mining activities
being conducted on National Forest System Land.
2. Absolutely no additional mining activities will take place on National Forest
System land until Colorado Marble submits, and receives back an approved FS-
2800-5, Plan of Operations, and this office receives confirmation of bonding
through the state DMG.
• During the meeting with my Minerals Administrator, Mr. Klco mentioned that.
Colorado Marble might be interested in completing an outright purchase of
Caring for the Land and Serving People Painted on ReryGetl Pape, ~~
