ANdER50N CONSULTING ENGINEERS, INC.
Civil Water Resources Environmental
March 30, 2004
Mr. Brad Janes
Varra Companies, Inc.
1431 East 16`x' Street
Greeley, CO 80631
Re: Durham Pit 117 -Cache la Poudre River Floodplain/Floodway Issues -Schedule Update
(ACE Project No. COVC03)
Dear Brad:
The purpose of this letter is to update you with regard to our status and progress on the above referenced
project. We have been gathering data since you authorized us to proceed with this project inmid-February. I
was informed on Mazch 26, 2004 that the surveying contractor would have existing survey information
available with in the next week. The survey information will facilitate addressing several of the items
requested by DMG in their January 6, 2004 letter. However, addressing the issues} of potential impacts to
flooding along the river requires the effective regulatory hydraulic model(s) for the Cache la Poudre River.
Obtaining these models has proven difficult. During the past month the following agencies were contacted,
without success, regarding obtaining the regulatory floodplain and floodway models: (a) Weld County -
Planning Department (b) the City of Greeley Stormwater and Engineering Departments; (c) the Omaha
District of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers; and (d) the Colorado Water Conservation Board. In early March
a research fee was forwarded to the FEMA library in Virginia requesting a search be performed for the
regulatory models. I anticipate that at least another two weeks will be required before receiving any
information from FEMA.
Due to the difficulties encountered in locating the regulatory hydraulic model and our current/anticipated
workload in April and May of 2004; I am requesting an extension for the completion of our Phase I evaluation
to May 28, 2004. Phase I work was defined in our Scope of Work dated February 10, 2004.
If you have any questions or comments concerning this request, please do not hesitate to call me.
Sincerely,
ANDERSON CO SULTING ENGINEERS, INC.
~~~~~
Chris J.
