Gunnison No. 1 Mine
File No. C-U07-80
I have reviewed the mine plan changes submitted by West Elk Coal Company,
Inc. for the Mt. Gunnison No. 1 Mine. The changes in mining sequence and
direction of mining will nat effect the hydrology finding within the
permit docwnent (e.g., there will be no foreseeable additional impacts to
surface and ground water).
No mention was given of locating the two monitoring wells over the first
subsidence panel in this submittal. West Elk Coal Company, Inc. is still
bound by Stipulation No. 15, page 16 of the permit document, to install
these monitoring wells. These monitoring wells are to be located over
the panel, installed one year prior to any mining within the panel, and
monitored for water levels monthly. A completion report for each well
showing the well location, lithology, casing, screening, seals, and
backfilling must also be submitted, as required in Stipulation 16, page
16.
/mt
cc: Jim Pendleton
Ed Bischoff
Ooc.
