Evaluation of Bear No. 3 Mine Landslide <br />landslides at the head of the slide mass. Downwazd movement of the colluvium along the upper <br />wetted bedrock colluvium interface effectively over-weighted the lower slopes. At the same time <br />the ongoing creep and decrease of internal sheaz strength continued. On November 15 the forces <br />for movement overcame the strength resisting them and the slide took place. <br />I CONCLUSIONS <br />Field evidence does not indicate a causal relationship between the Edwards portal spring and <br />triggering of the November 1997 slide. <br />Field observations and data indicate that the Beaz No. 3 mine slide was caused by a combination <br />of naturally occumng processes at a time when numerous other landslides in western Colorado <br />initiated or renewed their movements. <br />John W.
