Watcher <br />Execwiac Director <br />M¢hael B. long <br />Division Dvcclor <br />The Division of Minerals and Geology hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section 116, Paragraph 4, <br />of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on February 9, 2000, an application to revise coal mining operations at the Bowie No. 2 <br />Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. The revision was submitted by Bowie Resources Limited. All review <br />and comment periods az provided in the Act and the Regulations initiate Gom this dale of filing. <br />Approval of this technical revision would allow the construction of a ventilation shaft in the northeast section of the Bowie No. <br />2 permit area. Access to the site would be through the BLM Freeman Gulch public road, and then by an aheady-existing <br />exploration drill site light use road (the surface owned by BLM and by Bowie Resources). The shaft site is at a former <br />exploration drill pad site (the surface owned by Bowie Resources). Bowie Resources has applied for access to [he BLM portion <br />of the road through Federal Right-of--Way COG-63617. The shaft will be 6 to 8 feet in diameter and lined with steel. The shaft <br />will be about 400 feet deep and any water that is encountered will drain into the mine. The initial drill hole did encounter some <br />water in the upper colluvium but not in the formations themselves. There will not be a fan on the ventilation shaft. The <br />disturbed area for this project is about one acre, most of which has aUeady occurred through the exploration drilling program. <br />The underground coal mining operation is on land located approximately 5 miles northeazt of Paonia, Colorado. The permit <br />area is further described az follows: <br />Portions of Sections 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, I I, 14, 15, and 16, Township 13 South, Range 91 West of the 6th P.M. <br />The above-mentioned trace of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Bowie. <br />A copy of the technical revision application is available for public inspection at the Delta County Courthouse, 5th & Palmer, <br />Delta, CO 81416, and at the Division office.
