Note that the seedmix is
divided into three components, which will need to be bagged and
handled separately for seeding. Component G is the basic grass
mix, and should be drill seeded through the standard box of the
seed drill at a depth of 1/2". Component T is "trashy seeds" which
should be drill seeded through a drill box equipped with picker
wheels for trashy seed. The trashy seed should also be drilled at
a depth of 1/2". Component B is the portion of the mix to be
broadcast seeded. This can be accomplished by hydroseeding or hand
broadcasting after drill seeding has been completed, or by use of
various types of mechanized broadcasters. The seeding rate listed
for components G and T, is for drill seeding, while the rate listed
for component B species is for broadcast seeding. Note that the
rate for galleta assumes that entire florets will be seeded; the
rate should be reduced to 0.5 lbs/acre if this is not the case.
To enhance establishment of less competitive species of forbs and
shrubs which are included in the broadcast components, several
irregularly shaped areas of between .1 and .25 acres should be
excluded from drill seeding, so that only the broadcast seed
components are seeded in these areas. Rock piles and immediately
adjacent sites on the top of RP-1 would be appropriate locations
for the broadcast only seeding. Total acreage of broadcast only
seeding plots should be between 10 and 20 percent of the total
revegetated acreage.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Sincer ,~/~~~
r ~
i
Dan T.
