•
C~
instead of vertical grade, the total volume required for backfilling the central pit and the north and south
highwall is approximately 208,750 c.y. resulting in a fill volume shortfall of 74,528 c.y. If the
application is not revised to account for this shortfall, the reclamation cost estimate must be revised to
include costs for importation of this volume of fill material.
The east highwall height is shown to be approximately 100 feet rather than the 50 feet stated in the
mining and reclamation plans. The 50 foot east boundary buffer zone was apparently calculated
assuming a 50 foot vertical highwall that will be cut and fill reduced to a 2:1 slope. Please revise these
plans to account fora 100 foot tall highwall and adjust the buffer zone size to be consistent with the
highwall geometry that these plans specify. (minimum buffer width of 100 feet if mined vertically, or 75
feet if mined at a 1 /2:1).
Please include documentation of your source for the revised temporary fencing costs and type of fence
to be installed at that cost.
If you need additional information, please contact me at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Durango Field
Office, 701 Camino Del Rio, Room 125, Durango, Colorado 81301, telephone no. 970-247-5062.
Sincerely,
Steve S.
