All review and comment <br />periods as provided in the Act and the Regulations initiate from [his date of filing. <br />This revision proposes [he next ~ year mine plan, in a area referred to as [he Northern Mining District. This <br />proposed expansion calls for room and pillar mining and longwall mining. No new surface disturbance is <br />proposed with this revision, other than that associated with underground mine subsidence. The mine plan proposes <br />to affect the Fish Creek and it's associated alluvial valley Floor. The mine expansion will add 2779.2 acres of <br />affected area. <br />The Underground coal mining operation is on land located approximately 23 miles southwest of Steamboat <br />Springs, Colorado. The permit area is further described as follows: <br />In portions of Sections 7, 8, 9, T4W, R86W; Sections 32 and 33, T6N, R86W; Sections 23, 24, 2~, 26, 27, 34, 35 <br />and 36 in TSN, R87W; and all of TSN, R86W with the exception of Sections 34, 35, and 36. <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Rattlesnake Butte. <br />Because the above referenced permit revision application would incorporate additional lands into [he permit area <br />or might otherwise alter previously approved permit conditions or mitigation measures, eve are requesting your <br />agencvs evaluation of the proposal. Your comments and concerns relating to the adequacy of fish and wildlife <br />resources information, the fish and wildlife plan, and the reclamation plan as i[ relates to fish and wildlife <br />considerations, including potential impacts to threatened or endangered species, are requested. Your evaluation of <br />any woody plant stocking levels, planting arrangements, and methods for mitigation of potential adverse impacts is <br />also requested. <br />iiiiiiiiiiiuiii~ <br />999 <br />Pertinent sections of the permit revision are enclosed. 1n order for us to comply with regulatory time frames, we <br />request that comments be submitted to the Division of Minerals and Geology at the above address by 5:00 p.m. on <br />January 28, 2000.
