United States Forest Paonia P.O. (Bowie), to construct a drill pad, access road, and
drill one continuous-core geotechnical borehole. The purpose of this geotechnical borehole,
located in the Hubbard Creek drainage, Delta County, T. 12 S., R. 91 W., Section 35; is to
provide the Bowie #2 Mine with engineering and geologic data to determine the feasibility of
constructing a ventilation shaft in the area. Total disturbance for the drill pad {150'x150') and
access road (100' in length) is estimated to be 0.7 acres. See attached map. __
Depending on the results of the geotechnical investigation, Bowie may propose to construct a
ventilation shaft in the area. Once this determination is made, additional environmental analysis
will be completed. The proposal from Bowie consists of a number of tasks:
Construction of light use road and pad;
• Construction of mud piton the pad;
Drill one continuous-core borehole to an approximate depth of 600 ;
• Perform interim reclamation on pad and light-use road;
Close access road to public motorized use.
Bowie is proposing to construct the pad and perform the geotechnical drilling in the spring of
2007. The GMUG will be conducting an environmental analysis in accordance with the National
Environmental Policy Act on this proposal. This proposal is being released fora 30-day public
scoping period. The scoping period on this proposal ends 30 days following the date of
publication of a related legal notice in the Delfa County Independent. scoping comments may
be submitted in hard copy through the mail, fax, delivered by hand, or emailed.
