July I5, 1996 -3- 963-2027.008
Permeability of the three Clay Borrow (SLC-29) specimens subjected to zero freeze/thaw
cycles ranged from 2x10-$ cm/sec to 3x109 cm/sec, with an average permeability of 6x109
cm/sec. Permeability of the three SLC-29 specimens subjected to three freeze/thaw cycles
ranged from 6x108 cm/sec to 4x10-9 cm/sec, with an average permeability of 1x10.8
cm/sec. Permeability of the three SLC-29 specimens subjected to five freeze/thaw cycles
ranged from to 2x10.8 cm/sec to 3x10-9 cm/sec, with an average permeability of to 7x10-9
cm/sec. Again, the slight differences in the measured permeability between freeze/thaw
cycles could be attributed to variations in the compaction and moisture content. Repeated
freeze/thaw cycles appears have a negligibly small effect on the permeability of the Clay
Borrow Soil Liner Fill. Table 1 presents the permeability test summary, and Attachment B
presents permeability test data.
Golder appreciates the ongoing opportunity to provide engineering services for the Cresson
Project.
