Cyanide levels in tailings pond in M~rch were <br />approximately: <br />Total +200 mq/1 <br />WAD +200 mg/1 <br />Free 90 mg/1 <br />C. On April 23, the Mined Land Reclamation Board approved a <br />Notice of Violation and Order ("Order") wit attached <br />Abatement Requirements ("ARs") <br />1. Principle Elements of the Order <br />- Civil Penalty ($168,900) <br />- Established June 24 deadline an~ reserved <br />right to impose additional correct've action <br />- Established special notice an~ comment <br />procedures for technical revisions equired by <br />the Order. <br />2. Abatement Requirements <br />- Immediate measures to protect heal~h and the <br />environment <br />- Enhanced environmental monitoring <br />- Tailings pond detoxification and cop~tainment <br />- Assessment of longer term implicate ns if any, <br />of the cyanide levels in the tai ings pond <br />with respect to ore processing, r clamation <br />plan, environmental monitoring and financial <br />assurance (to be submitted subs quent to <br />detoxification). <br />
