4.7 HANDLING AND STORAGE OF MATERIALS <br />4.7.1 REINFORCEMENT <br />' Reinforcing steel shall be handled and stored in such manner as to <br />avoid distortion, excessive rusting, and objectionable coatings of <br />paint, oil, grease, dried mud, dried mortar, or other materials. Bars <br />' shall be stored so that each may be identified after bundles are <br />broken. If protective coatings are used on reinforcement bars and <br />fabrics, care should be taken to minimize chipping and scratching <br />of coatings. Damaged coatings shall be repaired by reapplying <br />protective coatings to the disturbed areas. <br />4.7.2 AGGREGATE <br />Aggregate shall be handled and stored in such manner as to <br />prevent segregation of sizes and to avoid the inclusion of dirt <br />and/or foreign materials in the concrete. Stockpiles shall be built <br />up in layers of uniform thickness and not in cone-shaped piles. <br />Material shall be removed from stockpiles in horizontal layers. <br />While placing fine aggregate in storage piles, care shall be <br />exercised to prevent fines from being blown away. Fine aggregate <br />shall remain stockpiled at least 24 hours allowing excess moisture <br />to drain from freshly washed aggregates. <br />4.7.3 CEMENT <br />Cement in sacks or barrels shall be stored under aweather-tight <br />cover with the floor raised at least 0.5 foot above the ground. <br />Cement that has hardened or partially set shall be removed from <br />the site and not used. Bulk cement shall be stored in airtight and <br />weatherproof bins with access for inspection. <br />4.8 WATERSTOP <br />4.8.1 PVC Water stop <br />PVC Water stop shall be Greenstreak Style 709 or approved <br />equivalent <br />4.8.2 Rubber Water stop <br />Rubber water stop shall have a minimum tensile strength of 384 psi <br />in accordance with ASTM D 412, a maximum elongation of 550 <br />percent in accordance with ASTM D 412, shall have a hardness <br />rating of 30 Durometer Type A in accordance with ASTM D 2240, <br />and shall be Adeka product MC-2010M or equivalent. <br />4.8.3 Paste Type Water stop <br />Paste type water stop shall have a minimum tensile strength of 350 <br />psi, a maximum elongation of 1000 percent in accordance with <br />ASTM D 412, a hardness rating of 30 Durometer Type A in <br />accordance with ASTM D 2240, and shall be Adeka product P-201 <br />or equivalent. <br />SPEC B -CONCRETE <br />PAGE 7 <br />
