Cement with a <br />C3A content exceeding 5 percent shall not be used. If cement of <br />this type is not available, a cement with a C3A content between 5 <br />and 8 percent may be used in conjunction with a 10 percent <br />reduction in water-cement ratio, or an approved cement/fly ash <br />mixture that provides an acceptable level of sulfate resistance. <br />4.1 .2 LOW-ALKALI CEMENT <br />Where aggregates are highly alkali, a cement containing less than <br />0.60 percent alkalis should be used. <br />4.2 WATER , <br />The water used for mixing concrete shall be clean and free from injurious <br />amounts of oils, acids, salts, alkalis, organic materials or other substances <br />deleterious to concrete or steel. Water shall contain no more than 2,000 <br />ppm suspended solids. <br />4.3 CONCRETE AGGREGATES <br />Concrete aggregates processed from raw materials shall conform to ASTM <br />C 33 or other appropriate standard listed in this specification. <br />SPEC B -CONCRETE <br />PAGE 4 <br />
