TRAPPER MINING INC.
III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
CERTIFIED #P175046684
Mr. Kent Gorham
July 8, 1992
JUG 131992
215oCenteMm; B d nd Reclamation Division \v\S\QN U~ U~~~
g• D ~ ~,~0~
1313 Sherman St. M1NE~Al.S
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Kent:
RE: MR-119 Topsoil Exclusion Areas For Hawken Pit - 1992.
Enclosed is an updated M56 "Areas Excluded From Topsoil Stripping" map showing the additional
acreage Trapper proposes for exclusion of topsoil salvage while developing H pit in 1992. Trapper pro-
poses to exclude several small boulder fields or rock outcrops and a larger rock bluff approximately 6.5
acres in size immediately adjacent to the previously approved exclusion area north of A pit (ash disposal
area). The total area affected is approximately 8.5 acres. This area is very steep, has very shallow soils
and is dominated by large igneous boulders. Efforts to salvage topsoil in this area would create unsafe
conditions for scraper operators and would likely damage equipment. Permit page 4-250 discusses
Trapper's approved procedures for excluding topsoil salvage when necessary.
Excluding this area from topsoil salvage does not create a future shortage of [opsoil when replacement
efforts wmmence in Hawken pit. Trapper estimates 487,000 bank cubic yards will be salvaged from the
166-acre Hawken pit mining area. The topsoil quantity needed to replace this disturbance, at our
approved 12-inch depth, is 267,800 bank cubic yards. The resul[ing balance is an approximate 219,200
bey topsoil surplus.
Kent, if you have any questions or concerns, please wntact me or Bill Harding.
Sincerely, ////~'
~~/~rl!~~2`-
William Agnew
Mgr.
