Southfield Mine
Minor Revision Request No. 76
South Fan Installation
Following construction of the portal seal, the fan portal and fan
installation site will be backfilled and graded to provide a minimum of 4
feet of suitable cover over any exposed coal seams or debris with ~~ ~ 5
maximum 3H:iV slopes. Most of the required fill material can be ~~ ~~
obtained from the temporary stockpile established during site clearing
and grading. This material will be supplemented as necessary from an
existing overburden stockpile created when the Monarch No. 4 Mine
portal bench was established. The location of this supplemental borrow
source is shown on the South Mine Fan Installation Map, (Map MR16-1).
Following removal of the temporary stockpile, this area and the
supplemental borrow area will also be graded to blend with the
surrounding terrain. Temporary drainage control ditches and berms will
not be removed during final grading. These structures will be retained
to provide drainage and sediment control during the period of vegetative way
reestablishment. Due to their limited size, these structures will not~~~u~
significantly impact the hydrologic balance and will eventually be ~-°L'v`
eliminated through the natural processes of siltation and erosion. -~.1
~~11~
Prior to backfilling, both potential fill sources will be sampled to verify
suitability and the best material will be reserved for surface placement. ~~~
If suitability concerns are identified by sampling and subsequent ~ ~
analysis, EFCI will develop alternative placement or treatment plans
and/or will identify alternative borrow areas for Division review and
approval.
Backfilled and regraded areas including the portal area, fan installation
site, temporary stockpile area and supplemental borrow area will be
ripped to alleviate compaction and reseeded using the permanent seed
o: Bon P ~~ ~M+o+e.eeo
tt/Y!/Bl ~Pm 14
