Southfield Mine
Minor Revision Request No. 16
South Fan Installation
The fan housing will be a fabricated sheet steel enclosure mounted on
the exterior foundation structure. The housing will be approximately 18
feet wide, 60 feet long and 6 feet high, will be configured to provide the
appropriate fan offset as specified by applicable MSHA regulations, and
will include explosion doors or diffuser panels and an access door for
fan inspection and maintenance. The fan housing will extend into the
portal and the exterior of the housing will be enclosed to provide an
airtight seal.
The fan shroud, fan, drive motor and related control and monitoring
equipment will be installed within the fan housing on appropriate
foundation structures. The fan will be an American Standard 60-inch
centrifugal fan belt-driven from a 50 Hp, 480 volt electric motor.
The fan will operate continuously except for scheduled maintenance
during mine shut-down periods and will be inspected daily incompliance
with applicable MSHA regulations. Maintenance will include lubrication
of fan and motor components, inspection and replacement of belt
drives, and testing and repair of control and monitoring systems as
necessary. Fan pressure readings will be recorded during the daily
inspections and explosion doors/diffuser panels will be inspected at
least monthly.
Operating noise from the fan installation will be minimized by the type
of fan being used, installation of the fan in an enclosed housing, and the
location of the fan installation relative to potential receptors. Noise levels
outside of the fan housing are not expected to exceed 45-50 dbA with
noise levels beyond 200 feet from the installation dropping below 40
dbA.
