Walther
Executive Director
Ronald W. Cattany
Acting Divizion Director
1 Second Adequacy
Thank you for your application for Technical Revision No. 1, submitted in response to problems noted
in DMG's report for the March 29, 2002 inspection of this site. This revision cannot be approved until
the following adequacy issues have been adequately addressed. Please respond to these issues as
soon as possible, but no later than July 9, 2002 so the decision due date of July 10, 2002 can be met.
If your adequate response, or a written request for extension of the decision date is not received by July
9, 2002, this application may be denied.
ADEQUACY ISSUES
1. Response acceptable.
2. The map originally submitted with the TR-01 application and the revised map submitted with the
preliminary adequacy review response show several sections of the island slopes with grades
steeper than 3H:1 V. This is why DMG questioned that these slope grades are steeper than 3H:1 V.
It is understood that the contours on the County GIS based map may not be accurate, and in these
cases, the data should be field verified and corrected on the map. Given that the portions of the
island slopes shown to be steeper than 3H:1 V are short in length and are shown at grades not
steeper than 2.5H:1 V, DMG will not require additional slope reduction on the island. Costs for
mobilizing a boat to allow for material transportation to the island, and costs for hand seeding, hand
mulching and hand raking of the top of island (above the slopes) will be included in the reclamation
cost estimate.
3. Please specify what the total depth of fill is (above and below water level.
4. Response acceptable.
5. DMG will add 250 feet to the 1325 feet of shoreline specified by United Companies as needing
reduced to 3H:1 V. This 250 feet accounts far the section of shoreline at the north end of the west
pit slope which the map contours indicate is steeper than 3H:1V. Field verification that this slope
section is at a grade of 3H:1 V or less will remove this cost from the reclamation cost estimate.
6. Demolition and disposal of the offices will be included in the reclamation cost estimate
