We have the following comments and
concerns.
Numerous wildlife species use this azea, at least occasionally. Some of these species are: moose, elk,
mule deer, bighorn sheep, black bear, mountain lion, bobcat, coyote, fox, raccoon, skunk, badger, mink,
cottontail, jackrabbits, snowshoe hazes and numerous smaller mammals. The same is true for avian
species such as: eagles, hawks, falcons, owls, geese, ducks, and numerous other species of both resident
and migratory birds. There are also numerous aquatic species found in the Middle Fork of the South
Platte River.
We are encouraged to see that the applicant "plans to work with the local office of the CDOW to discuss
any ways that the final site could be enhanced for wildlife. With willing landowners, wildlife habitat can
be protected and preserved. If contiguous comdors can be te$ undisturbed, wildlife will benefit. The
CDOW will be happy to assist the Trust however we can.
Some areas of concern aze weed control, revegetation, and maintenance of the settling ponds. If these
azeas aze adequately addressed, impacts can be kept to a minimum.
We would encourage the "Trust" to differentiate between noxious weeds and other plants they have
identified as weeds. Noxious weeds should be controlled immediately. Mowing of weeds should be
done pre-flower to help prevent their spread.
RECEIVED
APR 0 7 2004
Dlvlelon of Minerals & Gaolopy
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, Russell George, Executive Director
WILDLIFE COMMISSION, Philip James, Chair • Jeffrey Crawford, Voe-Chair • Brad Phelps, Secretary
Members, Bernard Black • Tom Burke • Rids Enstrom • Claire O'Neal • Robert Shoemaker • Ken Tortes
Ex Offiao Members, Russell George and Don AmeM
