(7) The weed problem is now being addressed. The infestation of the Canadian
thistle is a never ending matter. There is a problem through out the
whole Hay Gulch area. Having an over abundance of weeds in the area
insures that the mine cannot be completely rid of the thistle. A
contractor in Durango has gone ug and.tried_to get rid of the weeds, and
was somewhat successful. I am sure you will agree that a great magnitude
of the weeds are gone.
(8) The monuments for subsidence monitoring cannot be put in place until all
of the road construction has been completed. This will not be completed
until the end of October.
Section Seven also directed the stabilizing of the slopes and ditches.
The seed mix will be comprised of fifty percent western wheat grass and
fifty percent green needle grass. The first seeding will be conducted the
first of October on completion of the road work. Moreover we feel that
the moisture during the fall months would be adequate for germination.
(9) The topographic maps and the cross section maps do not seem to be a
problem. The Blue Flame Coal Company has had this done in the past and
this is where you obtained your information for the bonding summary. We
feel that this will satisfy the needs of the Mined Land Reclamation
Department. The cross section information has not changed.
(10) The Bonding Summary has been given to the contracting company in Durango.
They are currently working on the additional information that you have
sent me. I was not given a time frame as to how long this would take.
- They are trying to ensure-that the top soil will be available. - I will
forward this information to you, so that you can compare costs and also
give me any additional information before a bond is issued.
