Isules of ainc and acid in the +vaste rock and [heir potential contributions to either surface
water or groundwater were left open with the approval of Amendment #6, pending co!npletion of
hydrological and geochemical investigations. Said investigations were addressed in reports
sahmitted in Arendment #7. In brief, the Division is satisfied that most water that falls on the
iiatr _•nu w•tll recharge groundwater in the diatreme. Acid generated in the upper part of the
diatretr,e will be neutralized, and zinc will be removed or otherwise through unknown processes
such a; preciplta[ion of 7_n-aihcates, or adsorption by iron-hydroxides. Water that may ra:rvc
r+roagi+ waste rock Then into the surface water of Areyua Gulch will probably not degrade sL~rfac~:
water standards because the recentlyestablished standards for Areyua Gulch are so mcrcchhl~
high.
Item "'.
