CV-1999-014 FEB 22 ZQQQ
and MINOR REVISION #17 (MR-17)
•- - - -~--•-~- ENE`RGY-FUELS "MINING--COMPANY "("EFMC" ) - Division of Minerals6Geoio9Y
RATON CREEK MINE - TRINIDAD, COLORADO
Dear Mr. Berry and Mr. Gorham:
Further to a meeting with Dave Berry and myself at the
Southfield Mine on February 9, 2000 concerning the above rieferenced
subject, EFMC respectfully requests the Division to extend the
above NOTICE'S deadline to March 15, 2000.
EFMC appreciates the time and effort taken by the Division to
compile the suggestions for reclamation techniques for the site.
In view of the history of the site wherein the topsoil volume
previously salvaged for reclamation was inadequate and considering
that EFMC benefitted the pre-existing vertical wall 'faces by
constructing the 3:1 fill slopes as well as the extensive drainage
control ditches lined with rip-rap, concrete, Gabion wire, baskets,
etc., EFMC feels that reclamation work and expenditures to the site
through the life of the project have been significant.
Additionally, as the Division is aware, the land owner A.J.
Iuppa et.,al., strongly prefers that EFMC as well as the'~Division
be released from his land so that he can proceed with his~post land
use plans.
Considering the above factors and weighing costs for
_____ acceptable reclamation _success, EFMC would d~scu_,__ss _i.Lith the
Division, the more sophisticated reclamation techniques and
materials such as suggested by the Division for the untopsoiled 5
acres if the Division would approve bond release of fhe total Raton
Creek Mine Project.
If the Division is open to this suggestion, please advise as
to an appropriate meeting time for discussion of the project.
Thank you for your assistance and consideration.
Sincerely,
t ~ ~~
orge Patterson
General Mine Manager
cc: Rich Munson - EFC
