C-PIT Hydrogeologic Investigations
Technical Revision No, 8
1: Introduction Mining Permit M-1977-208
1.2 Project Approach
CEMEX outlined the project approach and scope ut its March 30, 2007 proposal for TR-8, which included
the following elements:
• Compile available historical and operational information for the Boulder Feeder Canal, the Swede Ditch,
and the Highland Ditch in the area of the CEMEX Lyons facility.
• Conduct a comprehensive site visit to confirm area geology, ditch flow gauging station locations,
piezometer and well locations.
• Investigate ditch seepage losses through gauging.
• Install piezometers and monitoring wells at multiple units/depths.
• Install a compliance well in the Fort Havs Limestone unit dow-ngradient of C-Pit and the existing
monitoring well CEM-001.
• Conduct groundwater sampling for chemical analysis at those locations where groundwater is located and
may be sampled.
• Prepare a report summarizing the results of the investigations.
One task in the original TR-8 proposal, testing the integrity of the A-Pit water hne during the next scheduled
plant shut down, was not completed. This was due to an earlier shut down of the plant than had been
anticipated Qune rather than]uly), and an accelerated restart schedule (one week) that did not provide
sufficient time to test the A-Pit water line to the spray tower. The next scheduled plant shut down is for
January 2008, and at that time CEMEX will consider if circumstances warrant testing of the A-Pit hne.
' 1.3 Report Organization
The organization of this C-Pit TR-8 Hydxogeologic Investigations report is as follows:
• Section 1 -Introduction consisting of a general project summary, including project objectives, project
approach, and report organization.
• Section 2 -Site Analysis and Field Activities describes the review of historical aerial photographs and
relevant records, and field investigation methods and activities.
• Section 3 -Observations and Results describes the groundwater and surface water sampling results as well
as relevant hydrogeologic observations made during the investigations.
• Section 4 -Conclusions presents an overall assessmen[ of environmental data and CE.'vIEX's conceptual
model for the Site.
• Section 5 -Recommendations outlines CEMEX's proposed long-term sampling program as Technical
Revision No. 9 to permit number M-1977-208.
1-2
Use of conlenis on this sheet i5 Sub~ecl to the limitations spemfied at ChB end OI this document
\1BCOEN02~pro~ects\Deta~GENtCemex\TR~~Reporting~GEMEX Reporl08-3b07.doc
