~II II~II~II~II~~ I~~

SEP [ ~ tQ~
Division o, ,.....~
Reference: Delta Sand and Gravel Co.
Operation Pit #1, M.L.R.B. Permit #M-77-020
Mi Vida Ventures Ltd.
761 - 1550 Road
Delta, Colorado 81416
September 22, 1997
Co ~
Allow me to introduce myself. I am the propertier of the TruVu Drive-In, Highway 92
East, Delta, Colorado 81416, adjacent landowner of Delta Sand & Gravel.
The drive-in has been there almost 50 years (1 would like it to be here another 50 years),
and is a landmark in Delta County.
The drive-in ground at one time was covered in Salt Grass which we kept mowed like a
lawn. As Delta Sand & Gravel dug the giant hole next [o us, [he grass gradually died until i[ was
all gone and we had a dust bowl. Eventually, we were forced to gravel the drive-in.
We now have a giant lake next to us (good for mosquitoes). I see no reclamation there, not
one blade of grass, bush or tree. The land they are proposing to mine next is the winter home of 3
Bald Eagles, Red-tailed Hawk, occasional deer and other small animals. According to the Division
of Wildlife, no study has been done as to the effects mining will cause. Aside from the obvious
dust, dirt, noise, slow-moving trucks on a busy highway, I will be surrounded by one giant gravel
pit.
Why make an eyesore out of something right on the main highway so close to town? Has
the Bureau of Land Management done any studies as to the effect on nearby land? I would urge
the board to study the map of affected areas. The old wrecking yard is now overgrown with brush
and trees. Do we need more lakes in that small area? What is going to happen to the ground water
in the surrounding land?
[ realize they have a right to run their business, but we also should have a right w run our
business.
Thank you,
h5

Barbara Dewsnup
Mi Vida Ventures Ltd.
