/]
7. Reclamation will not prevent any future development of the mine and
will serve to stabilize the site until a mine is constructed. The
reclamation should not hinder you from pursuing your goal of finding a
mining company interested in permitting and mining the Fruita site.
In conclusion the Division has the same goals as you do, that is to have a
viable, financially stable and environmentally responsible company to
permit the mine and to mine coal. However the Division has waited 10 years
and has not received an adequate permit application. The sediment control
system for this mine is currently in need of repair in order to meet the
current MLRD performance standards and to prevent possible degradation to
the environment. The implementation of American Shield's reclamation plan
will stabilize the site and and should not hinder the future development
of a coal mine.
Therefore, the Division will not stop the Implementation of a previously
approved reclamation plan. You may, however, try to pursue the
postponement through a public hearing with the Colorado Mined Land
Reclamation Board. This Item has been scheduled per your request for the
October 17 and 18, 7990 Board meeting.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call me.
Sincerery,
~~~~ ~~
Randall P.
