BEFORE THE
COLORADO MINED LAND RECLAMATION BOARD
In re: Basin Resources, Inc. )
Contest Proceeding
Notice of Violation
CV-2000-009
AFFIDAVIT OF RONALD G. THOMPSON
Ronald G. Thompson, being Ctrs[ duly sworn on oath, deposes and says:
1. I was previously employed by Basin Resources, Inc, at the Golden Eagle Mine,
and have continued to work as a Consultant for Basin Resources, Inc. on matters related to the
Golden Eagle Mine. I have over 22 years of experience in the coal mining industry.
2. I was first employed by Basin Resources, Inc. in February 1990.
3. In January and February of 1991 I conducted a survey of the underground
workings in the area known as First North. The purpose of the survey was to determine whether
any equipment could be recovered from this area before it was flooded. I traveled through every
entry and cross-cut in the First North azea throughout 1991. I continued to travel through the
entire First North workings as late as Mazch of 1992.
4. Mining ceased in the First North approximately in August of 1988. Mining
ceased in the First North azea because mining became difficult due to water coming into the
working face which created soft floor conditions.
Basin Resources, Inc. began flooding the First North azea in Mazch, 1992.
6. During my time working at the Golden Eagle Mine I heazd no reports of coal
bumps in either the First North area or related to any of the longwall panels at the mine.
7. During my time working at the Golden Eagle Mine, I had occasion to observe
drilling neaz the mine workings. Drill holes typically came within one foot of the expected
location of the drill hole in the mine workings, even over distances in excess of 500 feet.
DGSR'-351572 4.DOC
Febrvary 38, 2001 09:IJAM
