iii iiiiiiiinii~iii <br />NOTICE OF VIOLATION C-93-026 <br />4.04 SUPPORT FACILITIES <br />Support facilities required for, or used incidental to surface or underground mining <br />activities, including, but not limited to, mine buildings, coal loading facilities at or near <br />the mine site, coal storage facilities, equipment storage facilities, fan buildings, hoist <br />buildings, prepazation plants, sheds, shops, other buildings, railroad loops, spurs, sidings, <br />surface conveyor systems, chutes, aerial tramways, or other transportation facilities shall <br />be designed, constructed or reconstructed, and maintained, and the azea restored, to: <br />(3) Control and minimize erosion and siltation; <br />4.05.5 Sediment Control Measures. <br />(I) Appropriate sediment control measures shall be designed, constructed, and <br />maintained using the best technology currently available to: <br />(c) Minimi~r. erosion as necessary to provide protection for topsoil, <br />vegetation, fish and wildlife, and the hydrologic balance. <br />(2) The sedimentation storage capacity of practices in and downstream from the <br />disturbed area shall reflect the degree to which successful mining and <br />reclamation techniques are applied to reduce erosion and control sediment. <br />Sediment control measures consist of the utilization of proper mining and <br />reclamation methods and sediment control practices, singly or in combination. <br />Sediment control methods include but aze not limited to: <br />(c) Retaining sediment within disturbed areas; <br />(f) Using straw dikes, riprap, check dams, mulches, vegetative sediment <br />filters, dugout ponds, and other measures that reduce overland flow <br />velocity, reduce runoff volume, or trap sediment; <br /> <br />
