.~
Climax Molybdenum Company, Henderson Mine and Mill
Permit M-77-342 -Technical Revision No. 15
Transport and Disposal of Sludge
The sludge will be loaded at Urad into dump trucks, from where the sludge will be transported to the Mill.
The sludge will be offloaded on the south side of the #1 Dam Tailing Impoundment, near the existing facility
landfill. For your reference, please find enclosed a site drawing that identifies the location where the sludge
will be deposited at the Mill. From this location, the sludge will be moved by bulldozer further out into the
impoundment. As indicated on the site drawing, the topography of this area will ensure that any erosion of
the deposited sludge will be confined [o the tailing deposition area.
The solids concentration of the sludge, as discharged from the Urad treatment plant, is nearly 50 percent
solids, by weight. Additionally, the sludge is allowed to dry in the Urad impoundment prior to being moved
until i[ has a consistency of moist dirt. Based on past experience, there is no issue with liquids seeping out of
transport vehicle while the sludge is transported. Appropriate measures will be taken to prevent the release of
sludge during transport that might occur due to spills or high wind. This was not an issue during past
transports of the sludge to BFI's landfill.
Henderson plans to begin moving the sludge as presented sometime in mid July. We expect this to be an
annual summer activity in an effort to keep up with our sludge generation rate.
Please feel free to call me at (303) 569-3221 (X1287) ifyou have any questions, or I can be of further
assistance.
Sin/
Ton~ucero
Environmental Coordinator
Climax Molybdenum Company, Henderson Mine
Enclosures
Cc: Anne Beierle -Henderson
Rich Wagner-Henderson
Rich Nelson -Henderson
Dave Long -Henderson
Kurt Keskimaki -Henderson
