~ ~ III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
Mr. Uan Hernandez
Mined Land Reclamation Board
1313 Sherman St. Room 215
Denver, Co 80203
~~
April 25, 1989
,~.
!:~-:-
~~~=R ~ _o
- ~~ B9
Dear Mr. Hernandez:
I am writing to vehemently oppose the request by
Castle Concrete Co. to amend their current Snyder Quarry
permit to mine phase three of their development plan which
will expand their current operations and will subject
Williant~ Canyon to the ravages of strip mining.
Currently the total emissions from the three quarries
mined by them is 391 tons per year and phase three would
further damage the air quality of Colorado Springs and t}ie
front range. As the level of water in my bird bath lowers
the color of the sediment in the bottom is silent testimony
to the type of pollution we are obligated to breath in this
area due to this proliferation of mining.
Our quality of life is also assaulted by the additional
silt in the water supply, the displacement of wildlife and
very importantly the degradation of our God given scenic
beauty. All of these things are a great detriment to the
economic development of our community which depends heavily
upon tourists for our livelehoods.
Many years ago I felt that tl~e promises to use reclamation
procedures would solve the problem of defacement. By now
it is obvious that these procedures they have used produce
very little visible results and will never return the area
to an acceptable state in these visible locations.
I most urgently plead for your help in this matter be-
fore more irreversible damage is done.
Sincerely
806 Dirk s'3 and St.
Colorado Springs, CO 80907
