The four questions axe repeated below, followed by our
response.
1. The Division believes that an upstream ground water sampling location should be
considered to establish and further understand the upstream ground water parameters of
the C-Pit. Please address the need of establishing an upstream monitoring well and
sampling plan to establish baseline water quantity and quality.
Response: CEMEX agroes that the groundwater monitoring program for C-Pit should include
establishing baseline water quantity and quality. As noted an the March 3Q 2007 TR-8 proposal, we
have proposed a pbared approach that will frrt determrne the source(s) of water entering C-Pit and Refine the
hydrogeologic conditions of the .rite. Once thin information as fathered, we will then be able to determine an
appropriate location for sampling upgradientgroundwateranl establishing bareline conda'tions.
Our conceptual understanding of the .rite based an the presently available data it that groundwatergenemlly
flaws firm went to east. Therefore, prior to purposing along-term monitoring plan far tin? sate (see Response
3, below), an the interim CEMEX wall secure a sample ofgroundwater from one of the pie~ometers installed
to the west of C-Pit during Zhe first phase of the investigation. Such sampling may provide relevant
information on baseline conditions, and the results will be discussed in the report on the first phase of work
and factored into the long-term monidoring plan for this site.
Response w Adequacy Review -1'R 8 C-Pit.doc
