Ml
On behalf of our client Albert R. Frei we are submitting the
following answers to your May 8, 1985 letter concerning blasting
procedures at the Walstrum mine. Since the blasting in the mine
comes under the Bureau of Mines, MSHA and OSHA we assume you are
asking these question for curiosity reasons. If not please show
where you have authority to regulate this part of the mining
operation. We there for submit the following informative answers
as a courtesy to the staff.
1. Mr. Frei stated they would blast Between the Hours of 9:00
A. M. and 2:00 P. M. one day a week. The day blasting will
occur will depend on the rate of production in the mine. As
production increases it may be necessary to shoot more than
once a week but the hours will remain the same.
2. Yenter and Sons Blasting, inc, are the blasting contractor
for this operation. They use procedures standard to the
industry and approved by the Bureau of mines. They incorporate
the use of delays with non electrical caps for their designed
shots.
3. ANFO is the primary blasting agent with 60 gel dynamite used
when in the opinion of the blasting contractor it is warranted.
4. Please refer to the vicinity map submitted with the original
application.
5. Since Yenter and Sons have taken over the blasting the fly
rock distance has been confined to the face area of the
mine. In the future any fly rock distances will be contained
within the mine area.
6. Yenter uses the 60 scaled distance equation. If you do not
have this information in your reference material we gill try
to get a copy of it from Yenter.
