reliable conductivity measurements can be obtained and a consistent relationship to
TDS values established.
4, Revised Page 4.6-141 contains the statement '"Total dissolved solids will be measured
indirectly by measuring electrical conductivity..:'. It would appear that this statement
was inadvertently left in the text, and should have been removed with the termination
of the use of mathematical equations to derive TDS values. Please remove the
statement from the text.
5. Pages 2.5-A-8, -13, and -14 include data from water monitoring conducted in 1992, with
the exception of data from the first quarter of 1992. Please include Spring 1992
monitoring data in the tables.
6. Spoil spring WR-1 exhibits increasing sulfate levels since 1984. Sulfate levels in this well
are approaching material damage suspect levels specified by the Colorado Department
of Health for livestock watering. Since there are agricultural and domestic uses of Trout
Creek water downstream from the mine, the potential hydrologic consequences of
sulfate contributions to Trout Creek should be addressed in the permit application. The
PHC should include specific long and short term predictions of sulfate levels in spoil
wells and the projected impacts of sulfate additions to Trout Creek.
7. The revised Table of Contents submitted included permanent design sections for the
West Ridge and Center Ridge ponds. Those sections should not be included in the
table of contents until Permit Revision 03 has been approved.
If you have questions or are in need of additional information, please contact me. We would
be happy to meet with you to discuss these application adequacy issues. Please call me if you
would like to schedule a meeting.
Sincerely,
~L(9'CU~G~rl ~~~`v4,l~e~t
Susan L Morrison
Reclamation Specialist
SLM\010493.
