U. S. Department of the Interior
Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement
Western Regional Coordinating Center
Denver Field Division
Telephone/Contact Record
Date/Time: Monday 2 August 1999; 2:30 pm
Subject: Red Canyon Bond Release
Purpose: Obtain BLM concurrence
WRCC participant: Randal Pair
Other participant: Desty Dyer
Address: BLM Montrose
Telephone: 970-240-5300
Summary of Discussion
I called Desty Dyer of the BLM office in Montrose to check whether the
BLM would concur with Colorado DMG's decision to release Phase II and Phase
III bond on the Red Canyon mine near Cedaredge I knew from previous
conversations with Dan Mathews of DMG that he and Desty had discussed the
matter.
Mr. Dyer responded that the Federal coal leases permitted on the Red
Canyon mine had never been mined, that the leases have long since been
relinquished, and that BLM no longer holds any lease bonds. Because BLM no
longer has any connection with the mine, they have no concerns about the
reclamation there, and they concur with the bond release.
Actions Taken or Required
Document BLM'e concurrence for OSM's bond release concurrence.
Distributed to: Bond release file
Prepared by: Randal Pair, WRCC/DFD
~.~~
2-~ iq~9
