Cyprus wanted to know if it was possible to dispose of
the sediment from their oil-water separator in the portal
area waste disposal site.
2. Water used to wash down garage areas, et3c ` s put through
a tank-like separator which allows the waYs~ to separate
off the top. This oil is subsequently treated as waste
oil.
3. The water portion is passed through their water treatment
ponds and either evaporates or is eventually released
into the river.
4. Sediments from the process settle out in the bottom of
the tank and need to be disposed of from time to time.
5. Currently, these sediments are given the standard RCRA
(Resource conservation and Recovery Act) tests and
disposed of in the local county landfill as solid waste.
To date, none of these samples have been considered
hazardous.
6. Cyprus estimates two cleanings per year resulting in
approximately two cubic yards per cleaning.
7. Cyprus can provide us with analysis data for past
sediment loads and is willing to provide analysis for
future loads.
