p XTO-E, USTIC TORRIORTHENTS-USTOLL.IC HAPLARGIDS COMPLEX
12-60% SLOPES, CLASS VIIe NONIRRICATED
This soil complex is deep, well drained to excessively drained located on
moderately steep to steep terrace edges, mesa edges, and hillsides. They
formed in gravelly and cobbly alluvium and elevation ranges from 6,000 to
8,500'. The average annual precipitation ranges from 14 to 19", the average
annual air temperature is 45-50 degrees F., and the average frost free season
is 100 to 130 days.
These soils vary considerably but generally, the Ustic Torriorthents surface
layers are gravelly or cobbly loam or fine sandy loam. The substratums
are very gravelly or cobble outwasti material. Generally, the Ustollic Hap-
largids surface layers are gravelly or cobbly loam or fine sandy loam.
The subsoils are very cobbly or very gravelly loam, sandy clay loam, or
fine sandy loam. The substratums ar•e very gravelly or cobbly outwash material.
Permeability of these soils vary depending on the texture of the parent
material. Effective rooting depth is 40" or more and availahle water cap-
acity is low. Surface runoff is rapid and the water erosion hazard i.s high.
This soil type is used primarily for rangeland or wildlife habitat and for
construction gravel.
Native vegetation consists mainly of western wheatgrass, Indian ricegrass,
needleandthread, fie-grams, mutton grass, fendlers threeawn, junegrass,
biq sagebrush, rabbitbrush, pinyon pine, Rocky Mountain juniper, ~Fen~erese-
-P~o-, Mountain mahogany, serviceberry, ~~°°•.-.~~^;~ and Cambel oak. Wildlife
found on this site include mule deer, cottontail rabbit, coyote, squirrels
and various bird species.
Steep .slopes, gravel and cobble, are the primary limiting soil features
when planning for home or• community construction. These soil features
affect excavation for foundations, utility lines and roads. Construction
of sanitary facilities is Beverly limited and off site disposal systems
are more feasible.
