Exhibit D - Mining Plan
The area to be mined is about 13 miles South of Durango
and is approximately 6730 feet in elevation. The site has been
mined intermittenly since the early 1970's. Historically, the
site has been mined at three sites, averaging about ten to
fifteen feet in depth; one area indicates previous mining
up to 30 feet into a hillside.
A portion of this area is being currently mined under a
limited operation permit issued in 1987 by the DMG - Permit
No. M-86-061. The mining will expand in the south and
southwesterly directions as shown on the Mining Plan Map. The
current mining began on the southern border of the site and
has proceeded in a northerly direction as shown on the pre-mining
map. The topsoil has been removed to a depth of 4-6 inches
where the mining has occurred and has been stockpiled near the
eastern side of the property. If stockpiles of topsoil are
left for more than one year, they are seeded with sodforming
grasses to mitigate dust blowing.
The new regular permit area will be mined in basically
three phases as illustrated on the Exhibit C map. The anticipated
direction of mining and location of stockpiles are also portrayed
on this map. Phase 1 will encompass the Limited Permit area
and primarily extend this existing pit in a south- southwesterly
direction approximately 950 feet to the edge of the plateau.
Phase 2 will expand the pit to the west and south about 800
feet, mining from north to south. Phase 3 will continue in
the south- southwesterly direction approximately 750 feet. This
edge of the mining will stop approximately 275 feet from the
section Line between Sections 26 and 35.
Product stockpiles, some processing and topsoil stockpiling
will probably occur in Phase 1, 2 and 3 during the remainder
of mining at the site. Refer to Exhibit C map illustrating
the anticipated location of various mining related features.
It is planned that most of the mining in the pit will occur
in the months of March through September with some year round
work. It is planned that the pit be dry-mined unless groundwater
is exposed. If groundwater is exposed during mining, the owner
will proceed to obtain the proper water rights for such water.
The life of the gravel pit, with all phases, is expected
to be 30 to 40 years: the actual rate of mining will depend
on the changing demand for materials. The best current estimate
for phasing of this gravel pit is provided as follows:
