The results of the stability analysis are shown below:

............:.:.:...:.....:......:......:...:...:...:.:..:.. .........................
.:...........:.......::..:"::.:.::
:..:::::.::::.::. <:::::: Location of Sectioii.:.':;_::::: ':.
.:..
.::Factor:of:Safe .::::
'::(Soil Parameters);:
Haul/Access Road -Section A-A' 1.7
Haul/Access Road -Section B-B' 2.0
Water Tank Area -Section C-C' 1.3
Haul/Access Road -Section D-D' 1.8
Water Tank Road -Section E-E' 1.3
Substation -Section F-F' 1.3
Haul Road -Section G-G' 1.4
Sediment Pond -Section H-H' 1.9
Shaft Site -Section I-I' 1.7/1.0*
* The factor of safety depends on whether the cut is laid back or cut at 70°. A factor of
safety of 2.0 was obtained assuming the cut was in bedrock, which assumed parameters
of c = 2000 psf and ~ = 40°.
Factors of safety aze based on assumed soil strength parameters that will be better defined
following the proposed geotechnical investigation.
3.3 Post-Construction Risks
Post construction risks involve slope movements based on factors such as seasonal changes
in ground water and long term creep of the hillside.
Regular inspections of the access road and facilities should be made and inspections
records kept. These inspections will serve as a documented history for the slopes along the
alignment. These inspection logs should detail construction information, specific geologic
information, instrument readings if applicable, existence of seeps, springs, or surface
water, slope movement or raveling, sedimentation in drainage ditches, and tension cracks.
It is recommended that maintenance inspections be performed at least every 2 months after
construction for the first 2 years, with an Engineer making four inspections during the time
period. After 2 years, the maintenance inspections can be reduced to once every 6 months
and the Engineer's inspection every 2 years.
7/~I:\9e\31]B :1'fEN9 DOC Golder ASSOCIates
