brush plants are scattered throughout the area with the occasional clump of Indian ricegrass. Vegetative cover in these previously mined areas is very sparse, approximately 500 lbs./acre. In the piiion-juniper woodland area of 0.5 acres, pinon pine and one-seeded juniper are dominant. Shrub species include mountain mahogany, skunkbrush sumac and gambel's oak. Blue and sideoats grama are the predominant grasses. Vegetative cover is approximately 30 percent with production at 840 lbs./acre. Soils Information on soils can be found in the permit application on pages 53 through 59N. The soil type originally found on both the portal and sales area is unidentifiable since the historic mining in the area has stripped the original surface and blended it with the mine overburden. The site consists of a mix of heterogenous sandstone, shale and clay strata. Adjacent undisturbed areas have a shallow clay loam resembling the Louviers complex and Travessilla sandy loam. The soils were surveyed by the Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation Service, and the report was incorporated into the permit application. Wildlife Wildlife information can be found in Section 2.04.11 of the permit application, pages 65 to 66a. Species associated with the permit area include mule deer, coyotes, chipmunks, magpies, red-tailed hawks, pinon jays, Western bluebirds, and rattlesnakes. There are no aquatic resources on the permitted area. In a letter from the Division of Wildlife, received May 9, 1983, the District Wildlife Manager stated no rare or endangered species of wildlife would be "impacted" by the Twin Pines No. 2 Mine operation. Land Use Prior to the Twin Pines No. 2 Mine, the land was mined for coal by several mine operations. The post-mining land use will be rangeland and wildlife habitat. Page 93 of the permit application provides additional information. Desc~tion of the Operation and Reclamation Plan Operation Plan The Twin Pines No. 2 Mine ceased operations on August 31, 1993. Previous Findings Documents contain a summary of the operation and development of the mine. Since the last permit renewal period, Technical Revision Nos. 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7, and Minor Revisions Nos. 5, 6, and 7 have been approved. Technical Revision No. 3, approved August 28, 1990, addressed an additional waste disposal area, located at the sales site in a previously disturbed portion of the permit area. The . 12
