Long <br />TO: Jim Stark Division Direcmr <br />FROM: Mike Boulay <br />DATE: July 25, 2001 <br />SUBJECT: Mari Mine (Permit No. C-80-006), <br />Permanent Sealing of Exploration Holes/Wells <br />The purpose of this memo is to follow up on our meeting that we had with John Morrone of the <br />BLM on July l7, 2001. As discussed in our meeting, I think the first step in proceeding with this <br />project would be to conduct a more in-depth survey of the holes to be abandoned. This should be <br />the responsibility of the operator. They will probably want to hire their consultant Montgomery <br />Watson Harza to do the actual work. Each well should be inspected to determine the following <br />conditions: <br />Obtain and review well log and completion information including borehole diameters, casing <br />types and depths, gravel pack, and grout intervals; <br />Assess ground conditions including access to the well; <br />Obtain water level measurement; and <br />Verify total depth of each well, condition of casing borehole and amount of sedimentation in <br />each well. <br />A brief review of the surface water and groundwater conditions that exist at the site should be <br />conducted to determine [he physical and chemical properties of the formation(s) and to identify any <br />downgradient wells or surface water uses in the vicinity of the site. With this information, an <br />appropriate method and cost estimate for sealing each hole can be developed. <br />Let me know if you require additional information or assistance with this project. <br />c: Sandy Brown <br />
