ENVINOHMENT, IN G. • • PAGE 2
SEPTEMOER 7, 1949
honored tradition as they have a good working relationship with
their neighbors. The maps show all permanent manmade structures
and the owners on. Map Exhibits Cn and Ca-as required by Rule
6.4.3(g). Thanks for the reminder.
6. It is shown on the Mining Plan North Area - Map Exhibit C-ln Note
how the map shows that the slopes along Coffman Road are eloped
3:1, so if mining ended prematurely no additional work would be
necessary. Thank you for your recommendation on the mining
method along the road. we realize that we will be responsible
for any damage to the road as well as for disturbing area outside
our permit if our method of.mining causes damage.
We have no idea at this time where we will stockpile topsoil or
what direction we will mine within each stage. That will depend
on the site conditions, depth of material,-amount of topsoil
actually encountered and the demonda for moteriel at the time
mining takes place. In general we will stockpile topsoil along
the setbacks around the mined Brea. Showing their location will
only confuse thing later if we decide to change their location.
Our experience on the areap mined south of the river indicate
that initially we have to atoek pile soil initially, but reach a
time in each stage when we begin to replace it on completed
slopes as i't is stripped. we do not expect any changes on the
north area. As for the direction of mining on the north area we
will work away from the north side of Stage 3-Part A in a counter
clock wise direction. Map Exhibit~C-ln and C-la ahowa this in
the partially mined areas in Stages 3 - Part A, 3 - Part B and 4
- Part A. In Stage 2 - Pert B, we will mine up stream from north
to south.
8. This was intended to be an average depth for the area along the
river and was based on holes dug with a backhoe. The conditions
we find now have changed and the gravel varies from 10 to 30 feet
deep on the entire site'. we are directed by state law to moxi-
mize the extraction of moterial from the mine and have mined to
the bottom of the reserve and can now depict the actual condi-
tions instead of the thegretical.thickness stated in 1977.
Remember that we are working with 5 foot contours on these maps
and show the depth a's 25 feet (existing text 4'+15'19'). We
feel the maps accurately ahowa how deep we think the mined area
will eventually be and our reclamation plan addresses how we will
reclaim the slopes no matter the depth of the mining.
9. Thank you for your recommendation. We will take it under advise-
ment. Remember we are reclaiming .the lake Brea on this site as a
private recreation area and any wildlife habitat created will be
incidental to our final use. The rest is being reclaimed as work
area and feed areas.
10. Our practices include all three methods of creating slopes de-
pending on what we encounter as mining progresses. Currently in
Stage 2 - Part A we are mining neariy vertical end plan to
backfill the elopes will excess overburden found on the site.
This ie laid in and compacted using earth moving equipment normal
to fill construction. Our experience in Stage 1 ahowa that this
equipment compacts the fill material adequately'so that when
water refills the lake the elopes remain stable. The material is
not stockpiled as it is removed from the area to be mined next,
